Forty three degrees Celsius = 110 degrees Farenheit

That is the prediction for Sydney tomorrow, with humidity in single digits.  Total fire ban for NSW starts at midnight.  Swathes of the State have been declared a “Catastrophic” fire risk (or as the public service announcements state, unusually for such a laid back country, “YOU WILL DIE”).  I think we are only at “Extreme” fire risk where we live (“YOU WILL PROBABLY DIE”).  At the local shopping centre, there is a hall bearing a sign saying “This is an official place of last resort”, which I think is a truly wonderful sign to have!  I hate that I can hear the neighbours doing things like chopping down bushes and watering stuff, it makes me feel like I should be doing something, but if I start I won’t stop.

Shark attacks, bush fires, summer has finally arrived.

  1. What you need is a nice cool drink so you won’t be wanting to do something all the time.

  2. I’d almost be willing to burn in hell for the pleasure of seeing an “official” place of last resort. Good luck me old mucker!

    • Thank you comrade. I’ll try and post a picture of the sign, it won’t live up to my description unfortunately. There is another on a school not far away near another area of suburban bushland, and the kids who go there think it is very appropriate. No fires nearby, but I think it is the first time I have actually been a bit scared by public warnings of this sort. The NSW Premier was on the news warning the whole state was in danger and that it was going to be the worst fire day ever. No fatalities so far thank goodness.
